What’s New (and What’s Gone) in Bellingham’s Food Scene – Spring 2025

Having been a Bellingham local for my entire life, it's interesting to see the changes over the years. I've
noticed a pattern of incoming and outgoing restaurants, bars, and shops. It's always disappointing when one of your regular go-to spots closes, but in my experience, when one closes, another opens! Here's a roundup of what's new—and what's gone—in Bellingham's ever-evolving food scene this spring.

🥗 New Restaurant Openings
1. Love From London
A charming London-themed café that brings a little UK flavor to downtown Bellingham. Stop in for bubble waffles, ice cream, and classic English candy and sweets in a cozy, London-inspired setting.

2. Stemma Brewing Co. West
Stemma has expanded to the west side! Known for their craft beer, this new location features an updated menu and plenty of space to relax with friends.

3. Queens of Fire
This new family-owned food truck specializes in wood-fired pizza using local Pacific Northwest ingredients. Expect bold flavors and seasonal menu items that change often. Typically, this food truck is located in Birch Bay, north of Bellingham. Be sure to check their Facebook page for updated information!

4. Bordertown Mexican Grill
Opening in the old Pepper Sisters spot on State Street, Bordertown launched in March with a vibrant menu full of authentic Mexican classics. Early reviews have been strong—worth a visit!

Recent Closures
1. Bayou on Bay
A longtime favorite in downtown Bellingham, Bayou on Bay closed in early March after years of Southern-style food, weekend brunches, and live music. It’ll be missed. The good news? Under new ownership, Bayou on Bay will be reopening! A reopening date hasn't been announced yet.

2. Wild Oat Café and Bakery
Known for its plant-based menu and community vibe, Wild Oat quietly closed its doors this spring. A loss for vegan food lovers in the area.

3. Bella Ciao Pizza
Downtown’s Bella Ciao Pizza Tavern has permanently closed. Its creative pies and casual vibe made it a go-to for many.

4. Nacho Problems
Owned by the same owners as Bella Ciao, this nacho bar with big energy and even bigger portions has shut down. It was a fun, quirky addition to the downtown bar scene that just didn’t quite stick.

Change is the one constant in Bellingham’s food world. While it’s sad to say goodbye to familiar spots, there’s always something new to try—and maybe a new favorite just around the corner. If you’ve checked out any of these new spots or have recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
